iPhone 18 Malaysia: What Launched, What Didn’t, and When the Base Model Arrives
Apple launched only the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max in September 2026. Malaysia prices from RM5,499, why there's no base iPhone 18 yet, and what you can rent now.
iPhone 18 Malaysia: Launch Updates
Apple launched only the iPhone 18 Pro (from RM5,499) and iPhone 18 Pro Max (from RM5,999) in Malaysia in September 2026, alongside the foldable iPhone Duo. The base iPhone 18 was not released — it is expected in spring 2027 with the iPhone 18e and iPhone Air 2. Pre-orders opened 12 September, with retail from 18 September.
Most Malaysians searching for the iPhone 18 mean the standard model — the one that usually undercuts the Pro by a meaningful margin. That phone did not arrive.
Apple split its release calendar this year, and September was the premium half. It is a real change in how Apple ships iPhones, and it changes the upgrade maths for anyone who was budgeting for the non-Pro model. Here is what launched with confirmed ringgit pricing, what is still coming, and what to do in the meantime.
What was Launched in September 2026
Apple announced the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max at the "Surprise and Shine" event on 9 September 2026. Malaysian pre-orders opened at 8pm on 12 September, with retail availability from Friday 18 September.
The iPhone 18 Pro starts at RM5,499. The iPhone 18 Pro Max runs RM5,999 for 256GB, RM6,999 for 512GB, RM8,999 for 1TB and RM11,999 for 2TB. Apple has retired the 128GB tier on Pro models, making 256GB the entry point. Both ships are burgundy, glacier, silver and black.
The Pro Max has a 6.9-inch display to the Pro's 6.3-inch panel, and both run the A20 Pro chip on a 2nm process. The camera is the substantive upgrade: a 48MP Fusion Main sensor with a variable aperture, the first time an iPhone has offered genuine optical aperture control. Apple Malaysia also offers 24-month installments directly, with the Pro Max 256GB working out to roughly RM250/month.
Why the Base iPhone 18 not Launched
Apple has shifted to a two-part annual cycle: premium and new-category devices in autumn, mainstream and affordable models in spring.
The standard iPhone 18 is therefore expected in spring 2027, launching with the iPhone 18e and the iPhone Air 2. Apple has announced no date and no Malaysian price for any of them.
Worth correcting one thing that circulated widely pre-launch: there is no "iPhone 18 Plus". Apple has retired the Plus tier entirely. The autumn 2026 range is Pro, Pro Max and the foldable iPhone Duo.
What Variable Aperture Changes
Camera upgrades are usually marginal generation to generation. This one is the exception, and it is the strongest argument for the Pro over waiting.
Every iPhone camera to date has had a fixed aperture with depth-of-field simulated in software. A variable aperture physically controls light reaching the sensor and how focus falls away. In practice: better low-light shots without pushing ISO, and background blur that behaves optically rather than an algorithm guessing at edges — noticeably better for portraits and for the dim indoor lighting of most Malaysian restaurants and night markets.
It is Pro-only this generation. The base iPhone 18 arriving in spring 2027 is not expected to include it, so waiting six months will not get you this feature.

Rent, Buy Outright, or Take a Telco Bundle
With confirmed prices, the comparison is finally honest.
Buying outright at RM5,999 for a Pro Max 256GB means full ownership and full exposure. An out-of-warranty screen replacement on a Pro Max in Malaysia runs well past RM1,800, and resale on a two-year-old iPhone typically sits 40–55% below purchase price.
Apple's own 24-month installment at about RM229/month for the Pro Max spreads the cost but still ends with you owning a two-year-old phone, with no damage coverage and no upgrade path built in.
A Maxis, CelcomDigi or U Mobile bundle reduces the upfront cost but ties the device to a postpaid plan on a 24-month commitment with early-exit penalties.
A Cinch subscription separates device from line entirely — you keep your existing prepaid or postpaid number and pay monthly for the phone only. Terms run 3, 6, 12 or 18 months, include up to 90% accidental damage coverage (you pay the remaining 10%), and at term end you upgrade, extend, or buy the device outright with each payment counting toward the purchase price.
What You can Subscribe to Right Now
The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are available in the Cinch catalogue.
Cinch also provides the iPhone 17 series — iPhone 17, 17 Air, 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max on pre-order listings, plus the iPhone 17e and the iPhone 16 range. If your phone is failing now, a short 3 or 6-month iPhone 17 term covers you and ends around the point the 18 Pro is listed and the spring 2027 lineup is clearer. If your current phone is fine, waiting costs nothing at all.
